The CSO Latino Alliance marked its upcoming fifth anniversary with its first Musical Solstice, a cocktail reception and celebration, on June 23. Hosted by Latino Alliance members Rina Magarici and Matt Schiff in their River North home, the event also featured a mini-concert of chamber-music works, including Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, performed by CSO musicians Hermine Gagné, Richard Hirschl and Diane Mues. Jeff Alexander, president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association, welcomed the crowd and introduced the performance.
An advocacy group established in 2013, the CSO Latino Alliance works to connect the CSO with Chicago’s communities by creating awareness, sharing insights and building relationships. Among its activities, the Latino Alliance hosts four networking receptions, ahead of CSO performances, each season. Its next event will be Sept. 26, with a reception and concert, featuring the CSO, under Riccardo Muti, in Penderecki’s Awakening of Jacob, Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, with soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
