As part of its 2016-17 season, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will present world-premiere performances of four new works by leading contemporary composers Samuel Adams, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Carl Vine and Melinda Wagner.

Five Hallucinations by Australian composer Carl Vine: A co-commission of the CSO and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, it will have its premiere in subscription performances featuring CSO trombone Michael Mulcahy as soloist, led by guest conductor James Gaffigan. (Oct. 6-8)

Cello Concerto by Esa-Pekka Salonen: A co-commission of the CSO, the New York Philharmonic, the Barbican Centre and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, it will receive its world premiere by CSO Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma in three performances with the composer conducting. (March 9-11)

New work by Samuel Adams: The CSO’s Mead co-composer-in-residence will have his first CSO-commissioned work performed by Muti and the orchestra. (March 16-19 and 21)

Proceed, Moon by Melinda Wagner: The CSO commission will have its premiere under guest conductor Susanna Mälkki. (June 15-17)
