Riccardo Muti, music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, has announced preliminary plans for the 27th annual Ravenna Festival in Italy. For the second consecutive year, he has invited the Chorus of the Teatro Petruzzelli of Bari to perform. The chorus will be showcased in the special event “The Paths of Friendship: Ravenna to Tokyo” on July 3 at the Palazzo Mauro de Andrè in Ravenna.

Joining the chorus in this concert, to be conducted by Muti, will be the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra, the Tokyo Harusai Festival Orchestra, the Chorus of the Friuli Venezia Giulia and solo bass Ildar Abdrazakov.

Dedicated to human rights activist Nelson Mandela, the 27th annual Ravenna Festival has been titled “I Walked on the Long Road to Freedom.” The festival, which is headed by artistic director Cristina Mazzavillani Muti, runs from May 13 to July 12.
