The creative team behind Hypocrisy of Justice: Sights and Sounds From the Black Metropolis — Riffin’ and Signifyin(g) on Richard Wright’s Native Son, a world-premiere work commissioned by Symphony Center Presents, discusses in this video how the project came together.

Riffin’ and Signifyin(g), composed by Dana Hall, with set designs by visual artist Kerry James Marshall and text by actress-scriptwriter Cheryl Lynn Bruce, will receive its world premiere June 19 at Symphony Center.  The multimedia work marks the 75th anniversary of Wright’s landmark novel. Hall, who will lead his quintet in the performance, observes that Riffin’ and Signifyin(g) “celebrates not only the novel but also our own existence.”
