From San Diego, Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra traveled to the equally sunny climes of Palm Desert for a concert Oct. 19 at the McCallum Theatre. The program of Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (Unfinished), Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 was presented by the Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic.
The CSO first performed at the McCallum Theatre, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary season this year, in 2012. The multi-use theater books artists and acts from all genres. The McCallum is known for its tradition of encouraging performers to autograph the walls of the theater’s waiting and dressing room areas. For his autograph, legendary animator Chuck Jones (1912-2002) added a drawing of one of his most famous cartoon characters, Bugs Bunny, in a tux.
