Continuing on the West Coast leg of their 2017 U.S. Fall Tour, Riccardo Muti and Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed Monday night at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, Calif. The concert marked the season-opening program of the Philharmonic Society, which presented the CSO and Muti, as well as the CSO’s first appearance in Orange County in five years. The program featured three masterpieces of the Austro-German repertoire: Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 (Unfinished), Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto (with Stephen Williamson, CSO principal clarinet, as soloist) and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2.
