Kudos to another member of the Gingrich family: Dawn Gingrich has been named concertmaster of Orchestra Iowa.

The daughter of Daniel Gingrich, acting principal horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and artist-musician Mary Barnes-Gingrich, Dawn will join the Cedar Rapids-based ensemble, now in its 94th season. “Gingrich has the experience, skill set and personality to make a great concertmaster for our musicians and an outstanding representative to the community,” said Timothy Hankewich, the orchestra’s music director, in a statement.

A 1997 graduate of New Trier High School, Dawn has studied with CSO violinist Blair Milton, Mimi Zweig of Indiana University, Linda Cerone of the Cleveland Institute of Music, Zvi Zeitlin of the Eastman School of Music and Eric Rosenblith of the New England Conservatory. An international performer as a soloist and chamber musician, she also has given frequent recitals in Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Michigan and New York. Among her honors, she won the bronze medal at the 2001 Fischoff National Chamber Association Music Competition.

“I am looking forward to an exciting 2015/2016 season of symphonic masterworks, chamber performances and educational outreach concerts throughout Iowa,” she said in an interview with the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
