An all-new interview with Cynthia Yeh, principal percussion of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will anchor the Sept. 29 broadcast of “The Arts Section” on WDCB-FM. Veteran journalist and Newcity Chicago music critic Dennis Polkow conducts the interview, part of an ongoing series of CSO-related features airing on the radio station.

Yeh, soloist in the U.S. premiere of Avner Dorman’s Eternal Rhythm, with James Gaffigan conducting the CSO on Oct. 3-5, discusses the work and gives a “hands-on” performance preview of this percussion concerto, to be featured alongside Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 8.

She also reflects on her journey from pianist to percussionist and to the summit of a male-dominated field. She also shares anecdotes about CSO repertoire and conductors, including Music Director Riccardo Muti and late Principal Conductor Emeritus Pierre Boulez.

An abridged version of the broadcast will air at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29 on 90.9 FM Glen Ellyn/90.7 FM West Loop or streaming at http://wdcb.org/internet-stream. The complete broadcast can be heard via the SoundCloud link below. The broadcast was engineered by Eric Arunas and produced by Steve Robinson for New Media Productions.
