In his subscription concert debut, David Afkham conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony and Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with Emanuel Ax as soloist. The broadcast concludes with sixth music director Fritz Reiner leading the Orchestra in a legendary 1954 RCA recording: Strauss’s Don Juan.
