125 years of CSO premieres — reprised in less than two minutes

A Legacy of Premieres, The 125th Season

Since its founding 125 years ago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra has given more than 650 U.S. and world premieres. Many of these works, such as Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben, Elgar’s Enigma Variations and Holst’s The Planets, have become cornerstones of the orchestral canon and the CSO’s repertoire. This short video, produced and designed by the Chicago-based firm Melissa & Kwilosz, takes a quick look back at this outstanding legacy.

This season, the CSO is performing one or more of these premiere works on nearly every subscription program. In June, Bruckner’s Te Deum, which received its U.S. premiere during the CSO’s first season, will close out the 2015-16 year.
