To honor the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s 125th anniversary, the Negaunee Music Institute presented 125 Concerts in the Community throughout the 2015-16 season. The concerts, offered free to public and invited school and community audiences, featured performances by the CSO and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, as well as CSO and Civic chamber ensembles. Sponsored by the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, the 125 community concerts initiative kicked off Sept. 18 with the CSO’s Concert for Chicago at Millennium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion, with Riccardo Muti leading the orchestra in works by Beethoven and Mahler.
Other season highlights included: a performance by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago at the South Shore Cultural Center, chamber concerts at community venues including the National Mexican Museum of Art, North Park Village Nature Center and Zhou B. Arts Center, among others. In addition, five CSO chamber ensembles presented concerts at 32 school and community organizations in the city of Chicago between January and June.
