Li-Kuo Chang, assistant principal viola of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, previews “Sounds of China” in this video. The concert, an SCP Special Event beginning at 3 p.m. Feb. 15, features members of the National Chinese Traditional Orchestra and the CSO in a festive kick-off to Chicago’s citywide celebration of the Chinese New Year. Presented with the Chinese Fine Arts Society, the concert will showcase a fusion of traditional Chinese folk music and instruments with contemporary Chinese and Western classical styles.
A native of Shanghai, Chang says he’s happy that “this great orchestra is about to start a wonderful tradition” of celebrating Chinese New Year — “to share the joy of music-making with all of you in Chicago and around the world.”
