This program opens with an amiable work for strings by Mozart, then showcases CSO Concertmaster Robert Chen in Hindemith’s rarely heard Violin Concerto. Prokofiev’s thrilling ballet Romeo and Juliet is performed in a suite selected by Maestro Muti, and the program closes with more Russian music with Tchaikovsky’s great 1812 Overture. Gerard McBurney, the CSO’s artistic programming advisor, also discusses the Prokofiev in an interview.
