Daniil Trifonov, who performs Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 1 this week with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, champions this work. “It is strange that this concerto is not as popular as Nos. 2 and 3,” said Trifonov in an interview with Playbill Arts. “Rachmaninov himself considered it to be his best. It is full of fresh, original ideas.”

Watch him perform the concerto with the CSO in this video segment recorded April 16. The program repeats April 21 (the April 18 concert is almost sold out.)
